SunShine Gardner - Lead teacher/Director
SunShine has spent the past decade learning to play in the woods during any season and any weather. His true passion is sharing opportunities for adventure, learning and exploration with children of all ages. After working at several nature-based childcare programs SunShine knew that he wanted to start a school for children to learn to love learning and playing outside with others. Having already been enchanted with living in Ely, SunShine set out and obtained a Masters in Adventure Education and then founded the Ely Adventure School.
Audrey Jewett - Lead Teacher
Audrey grew up visiting Ely with her sibling and cousins every summer, and fell in love with the town, community, and surrounding wilderness area at an early age. She lived most of her adult life in the big city of Chicago, but never forgot her endearment for Ely, and made at least one canoe trip to the BWCA a year, introducing dozens of others to the magic of Ely along the way. When the opportunity to move to Ely came about last year, Audrey jumped at the chance, and has been thrilled with the slower change of pace the Ely life provides. Audrey has been in early childhood education for 5 years now and deeply enjoys the ability to help children learn, grow, and thrive. She has a background in Montessori education and has worked at outdoor preschools in the past, and couldn’t be more thrilled to be part of the team at the Ely Adventure School! She loves the freedom to be goofy and child-like that this work allows. One of her favorite parts about the job is watching kids set their mind to a goal or objective, observe and encourage them to help them meet their goal, and witnessing the sheer joy and satisfaction when they successfully complete their goal. She’s looking forward to getting to know the EAS community!
